17-year-old girl dies following alleged assault from father over poor medical entrance test score

A tragic incident unfolded in Maharashtra, where a 17-year-old girl from a district in the state lost her life following an alleged violent assault from her father, who was reportedly enraged over her low performance in a medical entrance preparation test. The victim, Sadhana, a Class 12 student aspiring to become a doctor, had recently underperformed in a mock test for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Her father, Dhondiram Bhagwan Bhosale, 50, who serves as a principal at a private educational institution, was arrested and taken into police custody. The girl’s mother, Preeti Bhosale, aged 41, filed a formal police complaint, claiming that her husband had struck their daughter with a wooden stick during a fit of anger on Friday night. Police authorities confirmed that the beating left Sadhana severely injured.

The next morning, as her condition deteriorated, Preeti rushed her to a nearby healthcare facility. Due to the severity of her injuries, Sadhana was transferred to the district hospital, where she ultimately passed away while receiving medical care. According to the mother’s statement, Sadhana had previously excelled academically, scoring 95 percent in her Class 10 board exams, and had harbored strong ambitions of joining the medical field.

Following the completion of her daughter’s final rites, Preeti approached law enforcement officials and filed an official complaint against her husband. Based on her account, police registered a case against Dhondiram Bhosale under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

In response to the gravity of the incident, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vipul Patil along with Police Inspector Vinay Vahir visited the location where the assault reportedly took place. The accused was apprehended by Atpadi Police on Sunday and later presented before the court, which remanded him to police custody until June 24. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and statements related to the case.
