President set to inaugurate AYUSH University in Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath hails milestone as new era in health begins
by Utsav RoyPresident Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to inaugurate the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Gorakhpur on Tuesday, during the second day of her two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh, as per official sources. Her itinerary also includes participation in several significant state events.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the development, describing it as the onset of a “new era in health and culture” for the state.
According to officials, the AYUSH University, established at a cost of ₹268 crore in Pipri, Bhathat, will be officially inaugurated by the President around 11:30 am. Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Adityanath will be present to receive her at the venue.
Dignitaries expected at the event include Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for AYUSH and Food Safety (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Mishra Dayalu, local MP Ravi Kishan Shukla, among others.
On Tuesday morning, the Chief Minister posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Gorakhpur marks the beginning of a new chapter in health and cultural growth. On this sacred land of Mahayogi Guru Shri Gorakhnath ji, the inauguration of Uttar Pradesh’s first AYUSH University, in the esteemed presence of Honourable President Droupadi Murmu ji, signifies a fresh era in healthcare.”
He expressed optimism about the university’s role in the future, stating, “Guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, this university will become a pillar of traditional Indian knowledge systems, encompassing yoga, Ayurveda, and holistic health, while also serving as a hub for medical education.”
Yogi Adityanath, who also serves as the Peethadhishwar of the Goraksha Peeth, an important seat of the Nath sect, emphasized the region’s strong spiritual and service-driven heritage.
In another message, the Chief Minister added, “Education is the cornerstone of a cultured, empowered, and progressive society. With the blessings of Mahayogi Guru Shri Gorakhnath ji, and in the esteemed presence of President Droupadi Murmu ji and Governor Anandiben Patel ji, I look forward to attending the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony at Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, Gorakhpur.”
He further remarked that the university would evolve into a vibrant hub for value-based innovation, research with practical applications, and the development of character.
He described Gorakhpur’s spiritual soil as advancing steadily toward the vision of a “Viksit Bharat, Viksit Uttar Pradesh,” transforming into “Aarogyadham-Gyanadham,” or an abode of health and knowledge.
Officials also noted that the President will inaugurate key facilities at the Mahayogi Gorakhnath University Aarogyadham campus in Sonbarsa, including an academic block, auditorium, and Panchakarma unit, while laying the foundation stone for a new girls’ hostel.
President Murmu commenced her visit on Monday in Bareilly, where she delivered the keynote address at the 11th convocation of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute. Later, she reached Gorakhpur to attend the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Gorakhpur and visited the renowned Gorakhnath temple, where she offered prayers amid Vedic chants recited by students.
