Customs officials in southern India’s Tamil Nadu seized cocaine and heroin worth Rs 100 crore from an Indian travelling from Ethiopia.
The incident happened at the Chennai international airport located in the eponymous district, on August 11.
Visuals showed a man, presumably from the air customs department, ripping open a bag to take out a white board. He then proceeds to do the same with a shoe and finds a black sole-sized slab inside it. Next, he is seen cutting out the edge of a travel bag to take out a black sack, which had the drugs.
According to a report, the Indian passenger, identified as Iqbal B Urandadi, was intercepted at the airport by the air customs officials who then proceeded to discover the drugs from his belongings. Urandadi was reportedly flying to India from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia via Ethiopian Airlines.
All the seized drugs, weighing up to 10 kgs (22.04 lbs) were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The passenger was also arrested and a probe in this matter is on.
