Customs seize gold worth thousands concealed in electric motor in southern India

The customs officials found gold weighing 1796 gms valued at Rs 95.15 lakh (USD 116,012) concealed inside an electric motor in southern India’s Tamil Nadu.

The incident took place at Chennai International Airport in Chennai on April 3.

Visuals showed Custom officials were trying hard to get the gold out of the motor. Officials unearthed an electric motor and found cylindrical pieces of gold hidden in its coils (cylindrical). They were working very hard to get the pieces of gold. The gold was melted and poured into a cylindrical steel plate inside the motor


The Chennai Airport Customs intercepted a passenger who arrived from Abu Dhabi. After examination, the customs officials found gold weighing 1796 gms valued at Rs 95.15 lakh (USD 116,012) concealed inside an electric motor. The gold was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, of 1962.
