Drug-addicted son turns violent during heated argument, kills mother while she cooks outside home

A tragic incident unfolded in a village near Pallikkathodu on Thursday night, where a 26-year-old man, reportedly battling drug addiction, allegedly killed his mother during a domestic altercation. The police confirmed the incident on Friday.
The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Sindhu, who earned a living selling lottery tickets to provide for her family. Her elder son, Aravind, previously employed as a JCB driver, had been undergoing treatment for substance abuse, according to police sources.
At the time of the incident, only Aravind and his mother were present at their home. While Sindhu was cooking outdoors, an argument broke out between the two. In a sudden escalation of violence, Aravind is said to have attacked his mother with a sharp-edged weapon, resulting in her death on the spot.
Alarmed by the noise, neighbors rushed to the residence and were shocked to find Aravind seated next to his mother’s lifeless body. The authorities were immediately alerted, and police personnel reached the scene promptly, arresting Aravind without resistance.
Sindhu’s younger son, who is currently studying and resides in Alappuzha, was not present at the time of the incident.
Following the arrest, police transported Sindhu’s body to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death and support the investigation. Officers stated that the crime scene was secured and forensic evidence is being collected to aid in the case.
This deeply disturbing incident has shaken the quiet rural community, prompting conversations about the growing impact of substance abuse within families. Locals remembered Sindhu as a hardworking woman who managed her responsibilities despite financial and personal challenges.
Authorities have confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway. They are reviewing Aravind’s medical records and prior history related to substance abuse as part of the inquiry. The case is being closely monitored and further legal proceedings are expected to follow based on forensic findings and witness statements.
