Employment generation takes center stage as PM Modi stresses policy measures driving workforce growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted his administration’s strong emphasis on employment creation across both public and private sectors, affirming that India has made remarkable progress in numerous domains over the past 11 years.
In a virtual address following the issuance of more than 51,000 appointment letters, Modi pointed to various welfare initiatives, such as constructing over 4 crore homes for the underprivileged, distributing 10 crore new LPG connections, and rolling out rooftop solar programs, as major drivers of job creation. He credited these and other efforts with fueling growth in India’s manufacturing sector.
Referring to his recent tour of five nations, he noted global recognition of India’s demographic and democratic strengths. He described the country’s youth as its greatest asset and a pillar of its promising future.
He emphasized that agreements signed during his trip would open up valuable opportunities for Indian youth in critical sectors like defence, pharmaceuticals, energy, digital technology, and rare earth minerals, enhancing India’s economic stature globally and within.
Citing a report from the International Labour Organization, he noted that over 90 crore individuals have benefited from welfare schemes in the last ten years. Modi added that more than 25 crore people were lifted from poverty, an outcome made possible through job creation and increased income sources.
He pointed to rising equality in India based on its Gini index, underscoring his administration’s pro-people initiatives.
The prime minister said India’s focus on manufacturing has led to extraordinary gains. Electronic production has grown fivefold, now worth ₹11 lakh crore. The number of mobile phone manufacturing units has surged from fewer than five to nearly 300. Defence production, too, has surpassed ₹1.25 lakh crore, showcasing India’s self-reliant military strength in light of Operation Sindoor.
India now leads in locomotive production globally, while metro and rail coach exports have expanded significantly. The automobile industry has attracted $40 billion in FDI over five years, leading to new jobs, more factories, and record vehicle sales.
He also announced an Employment Linked Incentive Scheme, under which first-time private sector employees would receive ₹15,000 toward their first salary, with an allocation of ₹1 lakh crore, projected to generate 3.5 crore new jobs.
He called the manufacturing sector a key driver of national advancement and employment, aiding India’s path to becoming the world’s third-largest economy.
The distribution of appointment letters occurred as part of the Rozgar Mela. Over 10 lakh recruitment letters have been issued to date. The program, the government noted, is central to youth empowerment and fostering meaningful roles in nation-building.
