Leopard attacks villagers in residential area; forest officials come to rescue

In a tragic incident, Four people were injured after a leopard entered a residential area and attacked them.
The incident took place in Bargadha village, in the Nishangada Range of the Katarniaghat Wildlife Division in Bahraich District, northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, on February 6.
Visual shows a leopard taking a big leap to attack a group of villagers standing in a crowd. It was seen jumping and catching a man standing on the wall while others fled in fear.

According to reports, the leopard emerged from a sugarcane field and ventured into a populated area. During this, the leopard attacked four villagers, leaving them with serious injuries. A crowd gathered at the scene as the incident unfolded.
Since the attack, the villagers have been living in a state of fear. After being notified, a team from the forest department arrived at the location. Reports indicate that some villagers had spotted the leopard in Shrikishan’s field within the Bhatha Bargadha village panchayat, near Kari Kot in the Nishangada range. Upon hearing about the sighting, hundreds of villagers gathered. As the crowd approached, the leopard fled the sugarcane field and took refuge in the house of a local resident, Sandeep. Chaos erupted as villagers attempted to trap the leopard inside the house.
The leopard attacked three individuals: Sandeep, Ramakant, and Indra Dayal who were sent to CHC Motipur for treatment. Upon receiving the report, Forest Range Officer Surendra Srivastava, Forest Sub-Inspector Israr Ahmed, and Forest staff members Rajesh Kaushal and Kishore arrived at the scene. After much effort, the team managed to drive the leopard away by creating loud noises.
Speaking to Newslions, Forest Officer Mayank Pandey explained that the incident occurred when Ramesh Kant was on his way to the fields in the morning, and without warning, the leopard attacked him, leaving him severely injured. Following this, the leopard attacked Sandeep, who was inside his house, also injuring him. The leopard then entered Shatrughan’s house and, as it exited, attacked Shankar Dayal near the culvert. Forest officials quickly responded to the scene, referring the injured individuals to the community health center for treatment. Additionally, the team managed to drive the leopard away by creating loud noises.
