Beach Managers in western India rescue olive ridley turtle trapped with hook in mouth
Two beach managers rescued a suffering turtle with a hook stuck in its mouth in western India’s Maharashtra.

The rescue took place at Wayangani Beach in Vengurla town, Sindhudurg district on April 4.

Visuals captured the turtle roaming around on the beach. Later, the two beach managers spotted the animal and discovered a hook lodged in its mouth. One of them carefully held the turtle while the other skillfully used a pair of pliers and a hacksaw to remove the hook, ensuring to handle the tools with great care to avoid harming the animal. Despite encountering difficulties, they persevered, and after a prolonged effort, they successfully rescued the turtle.

In an interview with Newslions, Suhas, a beach manager, explained that an olive ridley turtle, which had arrived at Wayangani Beach in Vengurla for nesting, had a steel fishing hook lodged in its mouth. My brother Jayanand Toraskar and I, along with fellow beach managers, successfully removed the hook after the female turtle had laid her eggs. Following the rescue, they released the turtle back into the sea.
