Bulldozer rampage at toll plaza: driver arrested after 60 km police chase in northern India

A JCB driver, in a fit of rage and under the influence of alcohol, caused chaos at a toll plaza in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, leading to his arrest after a dramatic 60-kilometer police chase.

The incident took place at Chhijarsi toll plaza in Hapur on June 11.

Visuals showed a bulldozer smashed through the toll plaza, breaking the barriers and injuring several people. It then continued forward, causing chaos. In the aftermath, a few brave individuals chased after the bulldozer, determined to catch the driver.

According to reports a JCB driver wreaked havoc after a dispute over toll tax. On Tuesday morning, toll plaza employees demanded the toll fee from the driver of the JCB. The situation escalated when the driver, intoxicated, refused to pay and subsequently began demolishing the toll plaza with the bulldozer.

The unexpected onslaught led to panic among the toll plaza staff, who fled the scene to save their lives. Witnesses managed to capture the destructive episode on video, which has since gone viral on social media. The entire sequence was also recorded by the toll plaza’s CCTV cameras.

Authorities were promptly alerted, and a significant police operation ensued. After a 60-kilometer chase, the police successfully apprehended the JCB driver. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol during the incident. Additionally, the driver attempted to damage several other vehicles in the vicinity.

The police have registered an FIR against the driver, including charges under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code for attempted murder. Initially, the toll plaza staff suspected involvement from a car driver with whom they had a prior altercation over the toll fee. However, police investigations clarified that the JCB driver’s actions were independent and fueled by intoxication. Legal proceedings are underway against the perpetrator.
