Continuous heavy rain causes severe flooding in northern India, submerging cars on local roads
Prolonged and intense rainfall has led to significant flooding in many areas of northern India;s Delhi, resulting in submerged vehicles and severely disrupted transportation.
The incident took place at Minto Road in Central Delhi on June 27.
Visuals showed heavy and continuous downpours have caused water to accumulate to significant heights on the Minto road. In this deep water, a car was seen almost entirely submerged, with only its top portion visible above the water. Several people were present nearby, struggling to maneuver their own vehicles out of the flooded area. The scene was chaotic, with the rising water levels making it increasingly difficult for anyone to pass through safely.
According to reports, parts of Delhi-NCR received heavy rain for the second consecutive day today with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting more showers during the day.
Rain, which brought further respite from the scorching heat, also caused waterlogging in several parts of the national capital.
The Safdarjung Observatory, the capital’s primary weather station, recorded 154 mm of rainfall between yesterday and this morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Earlier on Thursday, rain in Delhi brought the temperature down to 35.4 degrees Celsius. Delhi had been reeling from the sweltering heat, recording nine heatwave days in June so far against none in 2023 and 2022.
