Devastating forest fires ravage northern India: thousands of hectares ablaze
Northern India’s Himachal Pradesh known for its picturesque landscapes and lush forests, is facing a catastrophic series of forest fires that have been raging from past many days.
This incident happened in Solan on May 28 and the forest is still on burn till today.
Visuals showed how the fire has engulfed the entire area and the fumes making visibility zero. Local people scared and in panic situation still trying to control the fire.
Notable sites such as the forests near Tara Devi in Shimla and the famous Naina Devi temple in Bilaspur have been engulfed in flames. In Solan, the fire has reached residential areas, putting numerous homes at risk. Residents in Palampur are facing immediate danger as the fire, which has been burning for the past five hours, is now only 100 meters away from their homes.
Despite numerous attempts to contact the fire and forest departments, there has been no response, leaving the community to fend for themselves. Local authorities and emergency services are under significant pressure as they struggle to control the widespread fires and protect both the environment and human lives.
More than 8,000 hectares of forest land have been consumed by the flames, with 1,033 incidents of arson reported across the state. The fires have impacted multiple districts, including Shimla, Solan, Bilaspur, and Mandi.
The cause of these fires, including the high number of arson incidents, is under investigation. The situation in Himachal Pradesh highlights the urgent need for effective disaster management and firefighting resources to combat such environmental crises. As the fires continue to spread, the state faces significant ecological and economic losses, along with the immediate threat to the safety of its residents.
