Elephant goes on rampage at marketplace in eastern India, captured

An elephant was captured by forest department officials after it went on a rampage at a marketplace in eastern India’s West Bengal.

The incident occurred in the Arambagh area of Hooghly district on February 11.

Visuals captured the elephant who was on a rampage in the area. The pachyderm chased away a man at the marketplace. The whole marketplace was empty with people running away, keeping their vegetables intact, potentially fearing the elephant.

The elephant reportedly damaged several cars and many people also got injured in the attack. The forest department officials tried to chase away the pachyderm towards the Garbeta forest by carrying out a raid but it was to no avail as the elephant came back, entering through the Uchalan area through Goghat and then Bulchandrapur on February 13.

The pachyderm was eventually tranquilised with the help of two sleeping pills and it is likely that the elephant will be taken to North Bengal.
