Excise officials retrieve illicit liquor in southern India

Excise officials retrieved illicit liquor in several cases which were meant to be distributed among the people during the Lok Sabha elections in Pithapuram constituency of Kakinada district, in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh.

Raids to recover the illicit liquor took place in Pithapuram Jaggayya Pond, Padmasali Peta, Sri Dutta Nagar and Kumarapuram village, Alappuzha District on April 26.

Visuals showed the illicit liquor which was obtained in these raids. The liquor bottles were put into boxes and stacked at the back of a truck. Police officers were also seen inspecting a house from where they recovered the liquor. The illicit liquor was recovered, put in boxes and then covered and taken away by the officials. As per a report, liquor in about 1200 cases was retrieved by the officials. It was also suspected that the houses from where these illicit liquor was retrieved belonged to people who were close to the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu (YSR) Congress Party.

The Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh would be conducted on May 13.
