Man feared lifeless in pond awakens to startle rescuers in southern India

A morning shocker turned into a moment of relief and bewilderment for the residents of southern India’s Telangana, as a presumed dead body floating in a pond turned out to be a napping laborer.

The incident took place near Reddypuram Kovelakuntla in Hanumakonda town on July 10.

Visual showed a man’s body appeared to be floating lifelessly in the pond, creating a scene of alarm. A police officer arrived at the spot and carefully tried to pull the body out. To everyone’s shock, the man suddenly stood up, perfectly fine. He explained to the police that he was extremely tired from his long work hours and had decided to lie in the water to relax.

The incident occurred after panic created among the locals who spotted the body of a man seemingly lifeless in the water. They promptly notified the police and emergency services, drawing a large crowd to the scene.

A police constable approached the ‘body’ cautiously, grabbing its hand to pull it ashore. To everyone’s astonishment, the man suddenly woke up, revealing that he had merely been taking a nap in the water.

Identified as a laborer from Kavali in Nellore District, he explained to the police that he had been extremely tired from his 12-hour shifts at a granite factory in Kazipet and decided to cool off by resting in the pond.

“I work 12 hours a day. I was very tired. I wanted to relax for some time and so decided to lie in the water for a while,” he said.

The man, who claimed he was not under the influence of alcohol, further requested the police for Rs. 50 to get back home to Kazipet. What began as a distressing sight concluded with relief and a peculiar story for the local community.
