Massive landslide wreaks havoc in northern India, three bodies rescued
A massive landslide took place in northern India’s Uttarakhand which left many people injured and several houses and shops destroyed.
This happened in Gaurikund, which is one of the most important centres of the Kedarnath Yatra located in Rudraprayag district on the intervening night of August 3 and 4.
Visuals showed the officials in the area where this took place as they used ropes to carefully get down the slopes in order to conduct the rescue operation. Later, they were seen at work in the morning, braving the heavy rainfall which still lashed the place.
According to a report, this happened after heavy rainfall triggered the landslide as a result of which, a lot of debris fell down on the shops below. Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and disaster management rushed to the spot to conduct the rescue operations after information was sent to them about the landslide near the Gaurikund bus stand, in which 17 people are still feared to be missing. Three dead bodies have already been found.
The SDRF officials as per orders by commandant Manikant Mishra reached the spot accompanied by inspector Karan Singh. But unfortunately, could not continue with the rescue operations because of stones falling from the mountain and continuous rainfall. However, they got to work as soon as it was morning. Apart from the bodies, they also discovered that a massive boulder was stuck on top of the mountain where the landslide happened which posed a massive threat.
It was taken down and the bodies were discovered by the cops. The police are identifying them. The rescue officials are also actively on the lookout for other people who are missing and are using state-of-the-art equipment to look for people from Sitapur to Sonprayag.
As per the Rudraprayag administration, a Nepali family is among those who are still missing– five minor children and their parents–Amar Bohra (29), wife Anita Bohra (26). The other missing people have been identified as Ashu (23), Ranbir Singh (28), Vinod (26) Priyanshu Chamoli (18), Mulayam (26).
