Rescue operation launched to evacuate individuals stranded amidst flood in southern India
The incident took place in the Gundibail area situated in Tilak road near Kalsanka in Udupi district on July 8.
Visuals showed rescuers using lifeboats to evacuate individuals. The roads appeared like rivers amidst the flood, and people were moved to safer locations.
Speaking to Newslions, Leading Fireman of Udupi fire station, Ashwin Sanil said, along with District Fire Officer Vinayaka V. Kalgudkar, Station Officer Ravindra and Leading Fireman Sathish with his team started the rescue operation at 10 AM which went on till 8 PM.
Persistent rain submerged roads in the district, causing dramatic rises in water levels in low-lying areas, flooding fields and homes. Streets became indistinguishable from drainage systems and rivers. In Gundibail, artificial flooding necessitated urgent rescue efforts by the fire team, evacuating stranded residents. Udupi’s municipal commissioner visited to assess flooding around homes and streets.
