In a heroic effort, rescue teams managed to save a 90-year-old woman from severe flooding triggered by Cyclone Remal in northeastern India’s Manipur.

The incident took place at Lairikyengbam Leikai Village in Imphal East District on May 30.

Visuals showed in a village inundated by floodwaters, the water level was rising to alarming heights. The rescue team, determined to save lives, maneuvered a ladder through the treacherous conditions. They carefully placed a 90-year-old woman on the ladder, securing her safely. Step by step, they navigated the flooded area, ensuring her stability and safety. The team worked tirelessly, overcoming the challenges posed by the deep and fast-moving water, eventually reaching a safe location where the elderly woman could receive the care she needed.

Nongthombom Suran Singh, Asst. Commissioner of Imphal told Newslions among their many heroic efforts, they successfully rescued a 90-year-old woman who had been trapped in her home. The woman, unable to escape the rapidly rising waters on her own, was found clinging to hope as the floodwaters encroached. First responders navigated the treacherous conditions to reach her and brought her to safety. She has since been taken to a relief center where she is receiving care and support.

Heavy rains have led to flooding in parts of Manipur, including Imphal, where two overflowing rivers have inundated several areas. This comes after Cyclone Remal triggered incessant rainfall in the state and at least three people have died in Manipur due to floods in the state’s Imphal valley. The heavy rains prompted the state government to initiate active rescue and relief operations.

According to the flood control room, two main rivers, namely the Nambul and Imphal rivers have also touched flood levels. In some low-lying areas of Imphal, river waters entered houses and inundated streets.
