‘Sleeping thief’ at railway station in northern India has an unique way to steal

Thieves generally perform their work without being noticed and escape as soon as they are done. But not this man. A case of a ‘sleeping thief’ has come to the fore in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh where the man lies down next to the victim of the theft and escapes after taking away his valuables.

This incident happened on April 8.

Visuals from CCTV footage captured the ‘sleeping thief’ at work at the Mathura railway station. The man was seen lying next to people who were asleep on the platform of the railway station and slowly and steadily, he stretched out his hand and started to take things out from the pocket of a man who was lying next to him. After having stolen one man’s things, he goes on to another and takes things out of his pockets as well.

As per a report, this came into light when passengers at the station started to complain about missing several things, including mobile phones among other valuables. Sandeep Tomar, the GRP station-in-charge wanted to get to the bottom of this and investigated the CCTV footage. And what he saw left him stunned and shocked.  The cops then acted promptly to catch the ‘sleeping thief’ who was identified as a 21-year-old named Avnish Singh. Hailing from Etah district of the state, Avnish stole several items including mobiles and they were recovered by the police.
