Temple shrine overflows with devotees in northern India, drawing thousands amidst spiritual gathering

In a testament to faith and devotion, the sacred grounds of Kedarnath Dham in northern India’s Uttrakhand witnessed an overwhelming influx of pilgrims, swelling with lakhs who converged from various corners to partake in spiritual communion.

The incident took place at Kedarnath Dham in Rudraprayag district on May 15.

Visuals showed the area surrounding the Kedarnath temple was swarmed with an unprecedented crowd, as devotees, lost in devotion, stood outside amidst the bustling throng, eagerly awaiting their turn to enter the sacred site.

A huge rush of devotees around the hilly approach to Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath – a part of Char Dham Yatra along with Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Badrinath – led to a massive crowd build-up on the small hillside path.
Many people were seen standing in long queues for hours, a day after the doors of Kedarnath temple in the Garhwal Himalayas were opened for devotees.

Several devotees said that they had been standing on the narrow path for more than two hours and alleged that the authorities had not given any proper thought to safety and crowd management.
