Zoo elephant takes water shower to beat summer heat in southern India
The provisions of water sprinklers at the animal enclosures helped the elephants beat the heat and keep themselves cool in southern India’s Tamil Nadu.
The incident took place at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park of Chengalpattu district on May 4.
The visuals showed an elephant taking a shower to survive the harsh heat and cool itself.
Summer heat makes survival difficult, not only for humans but also for zoo animals. Elephants enjoy being in the water for a long time.
According to the reports, Arignar Anna Zoological Park Veterinary Dr.Sridar said, “We have special species like king cobra and Himalayan black bear. Those animals need a colder weather. For them, an arrangement of foggers has been made to increase the humidity and decrease the temperature. We have 13 percolation ponds on the zoo campus and we also have overhead tanks. A few big cats also need water. For Tigers, we have water ponds in the enclosure itself.”
The Arignar Anna Zoological Park has come up with a great initiative with the provision of shower overhead tanks at elephant enclosures to help the elephants survive in the scorching heat of summer.
