A wild elephant wreaked havoc after it strayed into the Cumbam town of southern India’s Tamil Nadu.

This incident happened in Theni district on May 27.

Visuals showed the elephant entering a populated area through a gate. The sight of the tusker charging caused panic and fear amongst the people as they ran for their lives. Some even fled the area on their bikes as the elephant came running at them. The lane was soon vacated and the pachyderm, after looking around a bit, turned away and walked down another lane, going away from the area.

According to a report, three people were left injured in this incident with one of them seriously hurt. The pachyderm also reportedly damaged a few vehicles. The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has issued a high alert for this wild elephant to be tranquilised, captured and then shifted to a forest area. Named Arikomban, the elephant was reportedly translocated from Kerala to the interior area of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The pachyderm has been moving around the forest areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala before it started venturing into inhabited areas.
