Alert railway worker pulls off amazing save, protects elderly man from incoming train in central India

This is a scene, straight out of the movies. Except for the fact that it is a real situation. A railway worker showed his alertness as he saved an elderly man, just in time from being hit by a train in central India’s Madhya Pradesh.

The incident is of the Murwara railway station in Katni district and it happened on October 2.

Visuals obtained from a CCTV camera placed on the railway track, showed the elderly man slowly walking across, not even having a hint of an incoming train. He walked across the track and turned back once, after the railway worker had shouted to alert him. Perhaps he wasn’t able to hear it as he continued on his journey, only to come within inches of the train.

The railway worker, later identified as a technician named Virendra Kumar, rushed to pull off the heroic act as he risked his life to get the elderly man away from the train. Although the train’s movement had slowed down before eventually stopping, the elderly man would have taken a hit, which could have led to severe injury. But Kumar was able to save the man as well as himself from the tragedy.
