Cop, his wife fall into open drain on flooded road in northern India

A cop and his wife travelling on a scooter, fell into an open drain on a flooded road in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh.

The incident happened in Aligarh city of the eponymous district on June 18.

Visuals showed the cop and his wife on a scooter, sliding into the drain by the side of a flooded road. They were unable to spot the drain with the road being flooded with water.

The cop had presumably tried to park the vehicle but to his shock and surprise, he and his wife instead were seen falling down the drain along with the scooter.

Locals immediately rushed to help the two with people dragging out the cop’s wife.

The policeman, identified as Dayanand Singh Attri, meanwhile had clung on to one side of the road and was pulled up by other people who had gathered at the spot.

Both of them suffered injuries in this accident. While the cop suffered injuries to his back, hands, and legs, his wife, Anju, was left with internal injuries.

The cop later said that the sewer lines were open and choked.

The couple had arrived at the spot to buy medicines as the cop’s wife was unwell.
