Fatal electric shock claims elephant’s life in southern India, farmer also killed in the tragedy

In a tragic incident, a female elephant lost its life due to an electric shock in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh.

The incident took place near Iramallappa Penta pond in the Baireddypalli mandal of Chittoor District and the video went viral on August 20.

Visuals showed amidst the fields, lay the lifeless body of a large elephant. Villagers gathered around the scene, alongside local authorities and police officers. News reporters captured the moment as locals and law enforcement officials shared their accounts and information, recounting the details of how and what had transpired.

As per reports, a farmer named Ayyappa from Nellipatla Panchayat Nallagutlapalli tragically lost his life after the elephant came into contact with electric wires on his farm.

Local farmers promptly notified forest department officials about the incident. Upon arriving at the scene, forest department personnel determined that the female elephant had died instantly due to the electric pole collapsing onto the wires during the elephant’s encounter.

Palamaneru Forest Range Officer Sivanna stated that a herd of elephants from Tamil Nadu had entered the Palamaneru range and were encroaching on crop fields near the forest. He added that measures were being taken to address this issue and prevent elephants from entering the crops.

Furthermore, he assured that if farmers experience crop loss due to elephant attacks, the government would provide compensation for the losses incurred.
