Fire breaks out of borewell after gas leaks in southern India

A fire broke out in a borewell as a result of a gas leak in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh.

This incident happened in Sivakoti, Razole mandal of Ambedkar Konaseema district on July 15.

Visuals showed the fire coming out of the borewell. The flames rose up from the borewell and reportedly reached a height of 20 metres. Officials of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and fire brigade were present at the situation as they attempted to put the flames under control.

According to a report, the villagers reportedly suspected that the fire might have broken out from a pipeline with a dry well 600 metres away from an adjacent pond. A submersible pump was turned on near the borewell beside the ponds which led the gas to burst out and subsequently start the fire. This caused panic amongst the residents of the area.

Information about this incident was also relayed to the disaster management team in Narasapuram.
