UPDATE: Leopard launches brutal attack on locals after straying into village in northern India, rescued

Officials rescued a leopard that launched a brutal attack on locals after it strayed into a village in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh.

This incident happened in Hatwa village, Itwa range in Siddharthnagar district on April 29.

Visuals captured the moment a leopard emerged from a building and leapt upon a group of men gathered outside the area. Anticipating the wild animal’s presence, the men armed themselves with sticks and rods. The leopard targeted one of the men, pouncing on him while others swiftly intervened, attacking the big cat with their makeshift weapons. Despite the assault, the leopard persisted in its aggression towards the man. Chaos ensued in the vicinity as the confrontation unfolded, with the leopard eventually fleeing back in the direction it had come from.

In another scene, the tranquilized leopard was seen being carried out of the house and safely placed inside a cage.

Sub-divisional magistrate Rahul Singh, speaking to Newslions, revealed that the leopard had initially attacked an elderly man sitting outside his home, sparking widespread alarm in the village. In response, the local youths mobilized and prepared to confront the animal. Five individuals sustained injuries during the altercation and were promptly transported to a hospital for medical attention. The forest department was promptly notified, and forest officer Mohammad Ilyas Khan and his team swiftly responded to the situation.
