Massive fire engulfs wine shop in northern India, doused after over an hour

A massive fire broke out at a wine shop in northern India’s Haryana which caused crores of loss.

The incident took place at Golf Course Road in sector 55 of Gurugram on May 14.

Visuals showed in a wine shop, a massive fire broke out, engulfing the surroundings in thick black smoke. The flames consumed the shop, leaving charred remains of shelves. Firefighters arrived in their vehicles with flashing lights. They battled the blaze, directing powerful jets of water towards the fire. The intense heat caused bottles to burst, scattering shards of glass across the floor.

According to reports, no casualty was reported as the shop was closed at the time of the incident.

According to fire officials, they got information at around 6:30 am on Sunday about a fire that broke out at a wine shop in Sector 55 near Golf course road.

Efforts were on to douse the flames with six fire tenders pressed into service and the blaze was brought under control after one-and-a-half-hour of effort, a senior fire officer said. The officer added that two firefighters were minorly injured after the liquor bottles burst in the fire.

“There was no salesman at the liquor shop at that time as it was closed. The cause behind the fire is believed to be a short circuit. There has been a loss of crores in the fire,” said Jasbeer, the firefighter who led the operation.
