One-year-old leopard rescued after being trapped inside well in southern India

A one-year-old leopard was rescued after it fell into a well in southern India’s Karnataka.

The incident happened in Niddodi village of Dakshin Kannada district on February 12.

Visuals showed Dr Meghana, a wildlife veterinarian and one of the members in the rescue team, sit inside a cage and get lowered down the well which was very deep. The well also had a small cave in which the wild animal was hiding. Dr Meghana also had a gun and darts inside her cage as they had planned to tranquilise the animal before bringing it out of the well.

Speaking to Newslions, (Range Forest officer, Hemagiri Angadi,said that the officers initially tried to lower the cage and lure the animal into it. But that effort failed and then, this method was adopted. The leopard was darted and pulled up after being put into the cage. The wild animal was also reportedly released into the wild later in the day. It was also learnt that the rescue operation, which also involved wildlife specialist Dr Yashasvi Naravi, Dr Prithvi and Dr Nafisa and it took 20 hours for the mission to be completed.
