‘Ram Navami’ procession attacked in eastern India

A group leading a ‘Ram Navami’ (Hindu festival) procession was attacked with stones, leading to several clashes in eastern India’s West Bengal.

This incident happened in the Shaktipur area of Murshidabad district of the state on April 17.

Visuals showed the horrifying scenes from the clashes which broke out after the procession was attacked. There was expectedly a big chaos in the area as men rab about here and there with a group of people throwing stones at the procession from the top of buildings. The people in the procession suffered serious injuries with one of the victims seen lying on a hospital bed with blood marks all over his garments and undergoing treatment.

As per a report, the situation went out of control and the police had to intervene and disperse the mob with lathicharge and even throwing tear gas shells. Those who suffered injuries were rushed to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital in Berhampore.
