Leopard captured from being hit by unknown vehicle near highway in western India

A male leopard was captured from beside a highway after it was struck by an unknown vehicle in western India’s Maharashtra.

This incident happened on the Pune-Nashik highway late at night on April 21.

Visuals showed the leopard sitting in the canal while being injured. The wild animal stared at the light which was being flashed at it by the forest department officials.  Subsequent visuals showed the big cat being put on a stretcher after it was tranquilised by the forest department team. The leopard was then taken away for treatment. Speaking to Newslions, Range Forest Officer (RFO) of Manchar Range Smita Rajhans said, “The leopard was hit by an unknown vehicle near Kalamb village and the forest department was informed about this. The officials reached the spot at 1am IST (Indian Standard Time) and began the rescue operation. A rescue team from Manikdoh arrived and the operation to capture and save the leopard started. As it was injured, it could not stand on its four feet and was seemingly headed towards the canal to hide.”

She added that the forest department officials then tranquilised the leopard with the help of a dart and then took it to Manikdoh for further treatment.
