Under-construction bridge collapses in southern India
A part of an under-construction bridge collapsed in southern India’s Telangana.
The incident took place in Odedu village of Mutharam mandal in Peddapalli district on the intervening night of April 22 and 23.
Visuals showed the two girders collapsed. These collapsed due to strong winds, fortunately without causing any casualties as the incident occurred past midnight when no one was present. Villagers alerted the police about the incident on Tuesday.

Construction of a one-kilometer-long bridge has been underway since 2016 to connect Odedu to Garmillapalli village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. Delays in the project resulted from changes in contractors, insufficient funds, and other factors. Local residents have been utilizing a temporary road beneath the bridge for commuting purposes. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid in 2016 with an estimated cost of Rs 47.40 crore (USD 5,687,407.50) and a projected completion time of one year.

Once completed, the bridge was expected to significantly shorten the distance between Manthani and Parakal, as well as between Bhupalpally and Jammikunta towns, by approximately 50 kilometers.
