Several lives lost, three injured after chemical tanker overturns and catches fire in western India

Several people died and three were left injured after a chemical tanker overturned and caught fire on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway in western India’s Maharashtra.

This incident happened in Pune on June 13.

 

 

 

 

Visuals showed the chemical tanker on fire as it laid overturned on the highway. According to a report, the tanker was carrying chemicals and was headed towards Mumbai and it overturned near Kilometer 49. Officials have stated that the tanker first hit a divider before it overturned and caught fire. The deceased include the driver who died from burn injuries. A part of the tanker fell off the bridge and unfortunately fell on a woman and her two children who were passing by. The tanker’s cleaner sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Three people also are being treated for injuries.

“The death of four people in the accident reported on Pune-Mumbai Expressway is unfortunate. Three people were injured in the incident and are being treated at the hospital, I pray for the speedy recovery. All the systems like state police force, highway police, INS Shivaji, fire brigade are at the spot and now the fire is under control. Traffic movement has been restored on one side, and the other side will also start soon” said Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
