Trunk-less elephant calf spotted in southern India

An elephant calf, without a tongue, was spotted near the Chalakudy river in southern India’s Kerala.

The incident happened in Kalady Plantation, Athirapally on January 10.

Visuals showed the calf around other elephants, who were chomping on grass and plants in the area. It stayed close to one of the pachyderms. Both the calf and its mother were seen as part of a five-member herd.

The baby elephant seemed to be normal and alright despite not having its full trunk. It stood under the mother elephant, who splashed water on it with the trunk.
