Forest officials rescue elephant after it falls into pond in southern India

An elephant that fell into the pond while drinking water was rescued by the forest department in southern India’s Tamil Nadu.

The incident took place in Madukkarai forest range in Coimbatore on November 23.

 

Visuals showed struggling inside the agricultural pond. An excavator was present at the incident spot to make way for the pachyderm.

The excavator dug a passageway from where the big mammal climbed out of the pond. After coming out it headed towards the jungle.

According to reports, the pachyderm had accidentally slipped into a pond while drinking water and was unable to come out.

The patrolling team of Madukkarai Range in the Coimbatore forest division, led by Mrs. P. Santhiya, Forest Range officer, quickly mobilized an excavator and safely rescued the young elephant, who then rejoined the elephant herd waiting nearby for her.
